Fellas, this one is all for you :)
Let’s keep it real,
When it comes to curly hair, men want the same things as women.
- Tips that are easy to remember
- Quick and painless
- Visible results
- Last but not least, to look GOOD!
Lucky for you, this list will provide just that.
Let's get started.
The 4 products you will need:
- Shampoo
- Conditioner
- Leave-in Conditioner/Moisturizer
- Gel (Optional)
You probably already have these at home.
You might even have to borrow them from your girl, your sister, or maybe even raid your mom’s bathroom.
Don’t worry about brands right now, almost anything will work because the technique is more important than products, so use what you got.
If you really don’t have them on hand, we got you covered.

Let’s get to the curls.
How to get super defined curls in 6 easy steps
Step 1: Get Your Hair Soaking Wet
Before performing any of the following steps you want to ensure that your hair is soaking wet. Once it is wet to the point of dripping, move on to step 2.
The easiest way to get this done is by doing your hair in the shower.
It will make everything go faster, and you don’t have to set aside any special time just to do your hair.
Step 2: Cleanse Your Hair With Shampoo
You want to apply your shampoo to your hands first, rub your hands together and add it to your hair.
Focus on massaging the scalp gently using your fingertips first then move on down your hair strands.
Be careful not to scratch your scalp with your nails.
Note: If your shampoo doesn’t lather much on the first wash, rinse and repeat to make sure your hair is thoroughly clean before moving on to the next step.
Step 3: Condition and Detangle
This step can vary slightly from guy to guy depending on your hair length, so I will provide 2 options here.
For Shorter hair:
You can simply apply your conditioner to your palms, rub it around to spread it then apply thoroughly over your entire head of hair.
You can stroke your fingers through to get it evenly distributed throughout your hair and catch any shed hair or tangles.
You can boost your definition at this stage by using a hairbrush.
Brush along the grain of your hair to get defined 360 waves or tight curls depending on your length and texture.
Leave the conditioner in for about 5 minutes (take this time to wash your body) and rinse out the conditioner!
For Longer hair:
You may find it easier to work in small sections.
Apply your conditioner to your hands and gently finger comb the product from root to tip.
Use a detangling tool that you are comfortable with like a Flex Brush, comb, or Denman brush.
Be sure to detangle your hair starting from the ends and work your way up to root. That will help you remove any shed hair or .knots
Once you have completely detangled your hair, leave it in for about 5 minutes (take this time to wash your body), then rinse out the conditioner!
Note: Detangling is crucial to defining your curls so don’t skip this step. Take your time and thoroughly yet carefully detangle your curls guy!
Step 4: Apply Your Leave-In Conditioner or Moisturizer
Once you have rinsed your Conditioner out completely, add your Leave-in Conditioner or Moisturizer to your hair.
To be sure that your hair is still soaking wet, stay in the shower for this part!
In this step, you want to finger comb the product through your hair section by section.
Try not to rub the product vigorously into your hair, this can cause your curls to frizz which in turn leaves you with less definition.
Step 5: Apply your Gel Styler (optional)
If you are looking for a definition that will extend beyond 2 days, we recommend applying a gel, like flaxseed gel.
It has a strong hold but is still light enough to keep your curls defined and soft.
Note: Apply the same technique as step 3 when adding your styling gel.
Step 6: Ready SET, Go!
You did it, now it’s time to set your curls!
You can either let it air dry, which is an ok option, but you will get more shrinkage.
Or you can use an indirect heat tool like a blow dryer or diffuser to get more length on your curls.
Remember to keep moving the dryer constantly on a low to medium setting.
For those of you who opted to add in step 5 or have longer curls, or type 4 hair it may be helpful to go ahead use the blow dryer.
It will help to set the style better, trust me ;)
Now it’s your turn

It would love to see instructions for men of various curl types.
Please highlight a brother with tighter/coiled hair. More often than not, models (particularly women) have wavier/looser textured hair.
