1997
When I was 6 years old, my grandmother relaxed my hair, against my mother's request. My mother was so upset, and that led to 13 years of relaxers to acheive "straight hair" so I could feel "beauitful" and fit in at school.
2010
Sophomore year in college, I was inspired to go natural by my mother and several girls wearing their afros on campus. That semester, I cut all of my hair off in my dorm room.
2017
I wanted to help other women embrace and celebrate their natural beauty, the same way my mother did for me. We launched a 4 step system to help you master your curls.
Yes, we will only provide natural and/or organic ingredients. We keep our labels simple, so you can understand exactly what is going on your hair & body. All ingredient information is on each individual product page.
No, the water-based products include a preservative. This includes all of our products except any pure oil formulas. Putting them in the refrigerator does help them last longer but is not required. Unopened, they have a 2 year shelf life and after it is opened, 1 year.
Ingredients may have been derived from corn, soy, wheat, and/or nut products. They may have also been produced in a facility that makes those products.
We recommend conducting an "Area/Patch Test" as described below.
Area/Patch Test: This test allows you to test a small area of your skin for 24 hours before applying the treatment to a larger area. We recommend rubbing the CurlMix mixture on the skin near your elbow, covering it with a bandage for 24 hours and if there is no allergic response (redness, itchiness,swelling) then apply the treatment as directed in the instructions. If you have an allergic reaction, we do not recommend the use of CurlMix and suggest that you seek a medical professional’s consultation.
Optiphen PLUS
We use a safe and natural preservative called Optiphen PLUS. It is a paraben and formaldehyde-free preservative as well. It's ideal for preserving natural products that are used on the hair and skin. It offers both safe & effective protection against bacteria, yeast and mold growth, making products last longer and safer to use.
Approximately 2 years if unopened. Once opened, store in a cool dry place. It can last one year once opened.

The Lavender is my second favorite of the line. My true love is the Mango Fresh but Lavender is very close and truth be told, I love them all. When I first discovered Curlmix I would do a wash & go 5-6 times a week. Now that my hair has grown, I use the four step line once a week. I love it more than anything else. all my other hair care products are collecting dust.

I absolutely love this product. Not only does it smell delicious but it moisturizes my hair and along with the gel, my curls are poppin'! I've tried all the formulas, but lavender is my favorite from the classic line. If I could choose, I really love the rose fragrance and that would be my most favorite. I just love them all.

I have tried all the fragrances over the last few months. I love the definition that the lemon gives me but the vanilla berry hold is amazing!!! I bought the gel, then decided I should use the moisturizer, too. I ordered and then used both products. I love the curls and this is the first time the curls have stayed put for three days. Tomorrow will be day 4, so we'll see how they look. This was also the first time I used my diffuser. I think it made all the difference.

When I watched the Disney movie Brave. I decided Merida was my spirit animal lol. That wild bushy frizzy hair. I've tried tons of products to calm it down. Many looked great when you first fix it but give it an hour and I can hear it growing. My heritage is Scott's Irish/ German and African. So I've got some very unique hair.
