You would have never caught me in this outfit 5 years ago.
I wasn’t confident enough to wear a suit like this. From the bright colors, to the crop top fit, I was too scared.
I did a whole photoshoot in this outfit and never posted the pictures.
Even after losing 30lbs, with it fitting perfectly, I still never wore it.
When it first arrived in the mail, the large buttons were loose. I put it in the back of my closet and never even considered wearing it again.
I used the loose buttons on the suit as my excuse for not wearing it.
The truth, I knew it would make me the center of attention and I was doing my best to hide.
Even though I am a founder, my team had to usher me in front of the camera.
I didn't want to be seen. I did it because I had to, but I didn't really WANT TO.
And look at me now.
Not afraid to be the center of attention.
Somehow it helps you to see yourself.
It helped me like myself more.
Next time you shop, buy the bright color and wear it with more bright colors.
Take up some space, and then take up some more.
P.S. To get this style, I shampooed and conditioned my hair. Then I blow dried my hair with only oil. Then I left it in 2 crown twists for 1-2 days. Yup, it's a middle part. For more definition, use mousse on the crown twists.
Here's a few shots of my DIY photoshoot.

What a very inspiring article & what an inspiration that you are to me because I AM definitely like you used to be. I so much do not like the spotlight & always prefer to stay in the back & NEVER want to do those bright colors. Not sure why you’re like that because you wear that color & outfit so well! Thank you for being so transparent & relatable. Your testimony is soooo powerful & at least gives me hope & the inspiration to one day have the courage to come to the front. Thank you & God bless! 🙏🏿
P.S. – I can’t say it enough….I love, love, love your hair! It is absolutely,
with out a doubt, soooo BeYOUtiFULL!! 😊👍🏾🫶🏾👏🏾What a very inspiring article & what an inspiration that you are to me because I AM definitely like you used to be. Keep shining and helping sister be comfortable in our own skin as we come out the closet. The King has need of us. No more hiding away feeling less than. All for God’s glory
That’s right sister, you wear it well. It looks good on you. I wore my natural hair to work Over 10 years ago for a total of 15 years I wore my natural hair. A lot of times in meetings I was the only black woman with my natural hair and it was my white boss that told me she loved my hair. The black women that looked at me strange and turned their nose up at me. I now see the same black women with natural hair. You go sister set the tone because you’re looking beautiful!
