We see all the nasty lies that are floating around about your Type 4 hair:
- “Type 4 hair is always dry!”
- “It’s impossible to detangle Type 4 hair.”
- “Wash + Go’s never work on Type 4 hair.”
That last lie really grinds our curls.
We designed the Wash + Go system to provide a style for healthy and nourished curls. All natural curls.
How are you supposed to receive the Wash + Go you dream to achieve if you don’t even believe your Type 4 hair is capable?
Like the good curly friend we are, we're here to support you in caring for and (most importantly) embracing your natural hair. Specifically, your Type 4 hair.
Ready to stop complaining and start cultivating healthy curls? Here’s how to perfect your Wash + Go on Type 4 hair:
Step 1: Cleansing Your Type 4 Hair
First things first: completely drench your hair with water. The more drip, the easier your curls will slip!
Apply the CurlMix Shampoo onto your scalp and massage it thoroughly with your finger tips, gently moving down your hair strands.
If you used any heavy butters or oils to style your curls prior to shampooing, go ahead and shampoo for a second round.
CurlMix Pro Tip: Don’t scratch your scalp! This can cause sores, which can lead to major damage to your overall hair health.
(Also be mindful of your nail length. Long nails can snag against your strands and cause breakage!)
Step 2: Conditioning Your Type 4 Hair
To make for a smoother process, section out your curls to divide and conquer this step.
Work the CurlMix Conditioner through each of these soaking wet sections, using the squishing technique to ensure it’s all up in your hair.
CurlMix Pro Tip: To squish your curls, simply squeeze the sections of your hair to build up the conditioner.
During this step, you’ll want to make sure you’re thoroughly detangling your curls.
Do so by first using your fingers to detangle your curls while in sections. This is especially important if you notice your tresses are matted.
Still looking for extra help in detangling? Using our Flex Brush, work this detangling tool from the ends of your hair on upwards. Do so lightly so you’ll avoid any tension or breakage.
Step 3: Moisturizing Your Type 4 Hair
Still working in sections (and still in the shower….a spray bottle won’t cut it!), rinse the conditioner out of your curls.
Again...don’t be afraid to drip-drip. When it comes to hydrating Type 4 hair, there can never be too much water.
Afterwards, add a few pumps of the CurlMix Moisturizer to each section. Finger-comb each section thoroughly, and use your fingers to clump up your curls.
Step 4: Styling Your Type 4 Hair
Now that your curls are nice and moisturized, add a few pumps of the CurlMix Flaxseed Gel to each section. Continue to finger-comb so your curls will clump together.
Your hair will be left feeling super slippery and deliciously defined, but keep your hands out of your hair!
You don’t want to create any frizz or friction that will disrupt your natural pattern before the cast is formed on your curls.
Step 5: Drying Your Type 4 Hair
It’s super important that you set your hair to maintain its length and definition after your Wash + Go.
Using a diffuser, use the Blow Down Method on a low-to-medium heat.
The Blow Down Method will set the definition and stretch out your hair, all while also minimizing any frizz. (Say goodbye to your days of air drying!)
Step 6: Stay Encouraged
Take it one Wash + Go at a time.
The more you give your Type 4 hair Wash + Go’s, the more you’ll perfect this style.
We know we were a lil tough on you, honey. It just breaks our curls to see our CurlMixers struggle with celebrating their respective texture.
Natural hair varies. Curly hair is unique in a million ways. There are no two heads that rock the same type of curl pattern.
But with the right techniques and the right products, you can rest your little curl knowing that we’ll help bring out the best of your hair!
Best Wash + Go Kits to Use for Type 4 Hair
Hold will really make or break your Wash + Go! For a stronger hold, we recommend our Fragrance-Free Wash + Go Kit.
With less fragrance, the flaxseed gel is more effective with defining your curls and holding in that pattern.
The Heavy Hold Wash + Go kit is another good choice, since Castor Oil is also a powerful ingredient that can improve your hold.

Hello, I have the same question. How do you know your hair type? My hair is very thick, dry and course, tangles very easily. It is greying and doesn’t take color.
How do I manage/style/mai rain moisture on a daily basis following my wash n go, days 2 -7?
Thanks
I have trimmed my hair but it is very short. I’m scared I might do something wrong. Do you twist your hair or what.
GM, I have been a CURL MIX customer for about 6 months and LOVE the results.
I find that I run out of #1 and #4. I would like to order theses solutions in the larger
