Here at CurlMix, we’re fans of all curls. No matter the texture or color, we’re prepared to guide you through your curl goals.
However, we must say...gorgeous gray curls are really something special.
Let’s be honest, CurlMixers: gray hair is inevitable. Watching your strands turn gray may be bittersweet, but there’s a lot of elegance and pride with growing older. It’s a natural process that we must embrace (and it’s pretty rewarding to do so!).
Got gray, Curlfriend? We got you and your curls covered! Here are a few good tips to use while taking care of your gray hair:
More Moisture, Please
Let’s break down why gray hair is more prone to dryness or breakage:
In every hair strand we hold, there’s a follicle, which contains pigment cells that produce melanin. Melanin is the super power that allows for our hair to produce colors (such as brown or black or blonde). Over time, the follicle will produce less melanin; it’ll also produce less sebum. Sebum is a natural oil that our scalps produce to keep our hair moisturized as it grows.
So the follicle, at the very end of its life cycle, is not only not producing melanin for your hair color, but it’s also not producing sebum to keep your strands moisturized. That’s one bad combination!
With consistent moisturizing of your gray curls, you’re keeping them in shape. If you can’t remember your last deep conditioner, now is the time to treat your curls with that extra dose of moisture!
Keep Your Curls Clean
A little shampoo can go a long way.
Build-up has never been a good look; especially not on gray hair! To keep your gray hair healthy, it’s essential that you still stick to your shampoo and conditioning routine. The consistent removal of this build-up is key for keeping your hair feeling nice and hydrated (in addition to being strengthened by our clarifying shampoo!).
(Friendly Curl-Reminder: Remember to follow up with our hydrating conditioner after you’ve washed through your curls. This finishing touch is essential to making your gray hair feel smooth and soft!)
Show Your Scalp Some Love
We cannot stress how important it is to enjoy a luxury scalp massage every now and then.
Scalp massages are key to indulge in. A massage proves circulation to your scalp, which is essential for stimulation and hair growth. These two factors will help keep your gray curls looking lively and bright. Plus...it feels really, really good.
Our Growth Serum is perfect to use for an upcoming scalp massage. With the thrilling trio of Organic Hemp Seed Oil, Organic Grape Seed Oil, and Organic Apricot Oil, your curls are in for a moisturizing and mesmerizing time.
We hope these tips will help you on your gray curl journey! How long have you been styling your gray hair? What are some routines you like to do? Let us know in the comments!

I have coarse curly all silver gray hair. I’m new to the wash and go. I was on vacation and a beautician did my hair. It was beautiful — and lasted one day! The next day, the back held its curls, but both sides were frizzy and the dropped curl was gone. When I got home I tried to do it myself and was successful until my hair dried and it went back to looking like an Afro. What can I do to maintain my curly gray (thinning) short hairstyle?
When do you do the scalp message? Is it the first/second day after WNG? Please help. I have grey hair in front of my head. I will appreciate any help I get. Thank you
1. Why can’t you air dry?
2. Not sure too much product or not enough?
3. How often should products be used?
4. 4C hair, what products to use. Hair is dry and stiff next day?
5. What happens when stop using products?
Would like to order Vanilla Berry kit, with senior discount.
