Top 5 Mistakes Made When Using CurlMix
Water is your best friend.
Wondering why your hair looks great after conditioning, but looks like a different person when it's dry?
You've stepped out of the shower, grabbed a towel, and you're getting ready to style your hair. You go to apply product, and BOOM. Your hair is damp. Cue curl craziness, random flyaways, frizz, and that odd piece that won't ever fall in formation...
Without water, your style is sunk.
Keep your curls soaking wet and they'll thank you.
#2 Not Properly Cleansing Your Hair
Picture this — it's Self Care Saturday. Your candles are lit, oil diffuser is going, and you settle into the tub...
You reach for the lotion to wash your body.
Did you frown just now? We did too. Your hair needs soap and water to cleanse buildup, just like your body! Co-washing doesn't cut it.
Makes sense, right? Even if it looks good, or feels slippery, you're just adding another layer of product buildup that blocks hydration.
Lotion-hair won't do. Reach for a clarifying shampoo.
We recommend the Pure Aloe Vera Shampoo.
#3 Not Properly Detangling Your Hair
Only detangle your curly hair when it's soaking wet an using the Step 2 Pure Grapeseed Conditioner.
This lubricates your strands + makes it easier for your detangling tools to slide through your hair.
Detangling helps eliminate shed hair that can cause tangles, knots, and frizz, which can rob you of definition in the end.
We recommend using our CurlMix Flex Brush to remove all those shed hairs that may have fallen out in-between wash days.
Once you finish detangling, you can let the brushes and combs go. That's because the best styling tool for the next step is your hands!
#4 Not Allowing Your Hair To Set
Think of a Wash + Go like an old school roller set — you have to “set” those curls to keep your definition.
We often hear new CurlMixers express that they didn't like their hair, that their hair wasn’t defined, soft, or pretty like the results from other, more experienced CurlMixers.
It's almost certain that they skipped an indirect heat source to "set” the style.
Unlike all of the other CurlMix Method steps, this one is optional but…
It's the difference between "Woof..." and "Wow!" results.
#5 Using Too Much Product
We've all been there. You slather it on in globs... only to end up with flakes, residue, or that dreaded white-cast when it dries.
We've all been there, and it's not your fault. Between misinformed influencers, misleading videos, and maybe even childhood, it's probably what you were taught.
Many of us have a misconception about hair products. More = Better, right?
You're probably thinking products are what give you curls.
But the secret is to saturate your hair with water and apply only what product is needed from there. CurlMix products are formulated to enhance your naturally beautiful curl pattern!
