What's In The Box
This would seem to be a simple recipe to formulate but I promise you it took me quite a few tries to get the perfect mix of light & fluffy, with a texture that will melt in your hands with ease.
This mix isn’t hard to make, but it was definitely difficult to create!
I was doing ALL KINDS of crazy stuff in my kitchen.
For example, I originally added REAL brown sugar to this mix, thinking it enhance the smell and texture…but instead, it just made me sticky lol.
I rubbed it on Tim and although he liked the smell, he was like “What are these rocks you’re rubbing on me?”.
Needless to say, the brown sugar was not a hit (See Exhibit A)
Then I experimented with the different types of butters. I tried Cocoa butter and although it enhanced the texture, it had such a pungent smell of Cocoa.
Not like sweet chocolate ..... just Cocoa.
If you’ve ever smelled a Cocoa butter stick from the beauty supply or Walgreens, you know exactly what I’m talking about.
The Cocoa smell wouldn’t go over well with the majority of you guys, so that was a no-no too.
Then I tried doubling the amount of oil and boy, oh boy, was that a mistake because more oil made me feel like I was a greased pig. I was so shiny, it hurt Tim’s eyes.
Then I finally came up with the perfect mix of Kokum Butter, Shea Butter, Coconut Oil, Pumpkin Seed Oil and Fragrance.
It was amazing, except when I tried to recreate the same recipe, it would NOT solidify when left out overnight on the counter.
I learned that because of the fatty properties of Pumpkin Seed Oil & Kokum butter, I needed to cool them in the refrigerator for about 5 hours to solidify them properly.
After they solidified, I let the mix cool by sitting on the counter overnight for a cream/lotion-like consistency.
However, you can use an electric hand mixer to create an even lighter and fluffier texture.
Either way, they work wonderfully and it smells amazing!
I am in love, and I know you will love this month’s recipe as well.
It is super easy to make. Melt everything together in a jar, and then just wait for it to solidify, whip it up if you want, and voila!
